The Valley Forge Patriots boys’ soccer team is off to a slow start in the 2019-2020 season. After six games the boys are 1-5-0. The first portion of the schedule was going to be a challenge playing the likes of Bay Village, Buckeye, and a hungry Lincoln-West team.
The boys opened the season at home against Benedictine dropping the match 6-2. Goals were scored by Freshman Riley Hein and Senior Justin Swanberg. Junior Cory Jarus and Sophomore Bradley Burk were credited with the two assists.
The Patriots traveled to North Olmsted to face the Eagles and ended up getting shut out 4-0. The boys had a sluggish start to the game being down 3-0 at halftime but made major improvements in the second half to only allow 1 goal.
The Patriots returned home to face the Rebels from Willoughby South where the boys picked up their first win of the season defeating the Rebels 5-1. Senior Justin Swanberg lead the charge scoring 3 goals giving him 4 on the season. Also scoring for the Patriots were Senior Chris Hein, and Freshman Riley Hein. Chris added an assist to his name while Freshman Kosta Kafantaris added a spark off the Patriots bench and contributed an assist
The next three games for the Patriots were against Medina Buckeye, Lincoln-West, and Bay Village. The boys’ lost 3-0, 7-0, and 7-0 respectively. The boys’ return to action this Saturday in an inner conference battle against the Pirates of Rocky River game times are at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Rocky River High School.
