The Lady Patriots played three of their toughest conference opponents (Buckeye, Bay, Rocky River) to start the season and find themselves with a 0-3 record. After a couple lopsided losses to Buckeye and Bay, the VF girls’ put together an impressive defensive battle against Rocky River (currently ranked #4 in Ohio), losing 3-0. Bailey Kennedy had an outstanding game as she played center defender for the first time in her varsity career. With Katie Kraguljac as her center defender counterpart, the Patriots hope to have solidified a strong back line for the 2020 season. Nat “The Cat” Greenwood (goalkeeper) looked nimble, sharp, and focused as she undoubtedly had her best game thus far between the posts against River. Center midfield star player Savannah Zambory is the only Patriot to have scored thus far with one goal against Buckeye.
Coach Doug said that “the team was disappointed to start the season with two blowout losses but seemed to have straightened the ship with a better defensive attitude against the best team we have played thus far. River was really good, but we didn’t allow them to get comfortable like we did against Bay and Buckeye. I just want scrappy and tough players that truly want to defend, it has to be the staple of PCSD soccer teams if we want to compete in our challenging soccer conference.”
The Lady Patriots play Holy Name (Conference game) on Tuesday, September 15 (Senior Night) at Byers Field @ 7:00 PM.
